Teen/Youth Gambling

Most problem gambling has its origins in adolescence. Gambling opportunities are readily available for school-aged youth across all cultures. Gambling Information & Counseling will provide prevention services to school aged youth and their parents. These services for individuals and/or groups are designed to educate youth regarding compulsive gambling, probability, financial and social consequences of problem gambling. This educational base, coupled with social/refusal skill-building techniques provides youth with a basis for sound decision making and long-term wellness.

Warning Signs

Carries or possesses gambling materials (tickets, cards, dice, betting sheets)
Believes that gambling is a way to make money
Borrows money frequently from friends, family
Misuses lunch money, steals from family
Lies about gambling
Displays large amounts of cash or new material goods
Frequent mood swings when winning/losing
Skips classes or neglects homework
Excessive time spent on-line (check the computer history for gambling links)
Continues to gamble despite the pain it has brought to self or others
