Fall/Winter
Maintenance
Tips
Here are some things you should consider when preparing your home
or business for the cold winter weather:
| |
Clean
gutters and downspouts after the leaves have fallen. Leaves
plug gutters, which causes water to back up. The water turns
to ice, which expands under the eaves and shingles, causing
roof damage. |
| |
Check
storm doors and adjust the bottom sweep on the threshold
to prevent drafts. |
| |
Make
sure all storm windows are closed. Caulk windows where necessary. |

| |
Make
sure the flue liner is sealed to the cinder blocks or brick.
If water can seep in it will crack the masonry and damage
your chimney. |
| |
Make
sure the metal rain cap over the flue is in place. Newer
furnaces don’t heat the flue long enough to dry the
vent pipes. This can allow corrosion to take place, creating
holes in your vent pipes. |
For better
efficiency:
| |
Replace
filters monthly |
| |
Clean
and adjust the humidifier |
| |
Oil
the fan motor and oil pump motor |
| |
Adjust
the belts |
| |
Clean
the burner compartment |
| |
Change
the nozzle (on oil furnaces)
|

| |
Check
the oil circulation pumps |
| |
Clean
the burner compartment |
