Preparing for the interview:

Learn everything you can about the employer and the job for which you are applying.

1. Make a list of questions you might want to ask an employer. For instance:

What training is required for this job?
What are the hours I would be working?
What are the opportunities for advancement?
Is there anything I should read or study for this job?

2. Materials you should bring with you:

A blue or black pen
Your personal fact sheet
Your list of questions
Your resume and references

3. Decide what you are going to wear

4. Think about any questions that might be asked during the interview

5. Practice for the interview with a parent or friend

6. Know where you have to go for the interview

The Interview

Arrive 10-15 minutes early
Tell the receptionist who you are and who you are there to see
Don’t take anyone with you. If you get a ride, have them wait outside or have them pick you up later.
Greet the employer with a firm handshake and a friendly greeting.
Listen to the employer and act interested.
Eye contact!!
Answer all questions positively and honestly.
Send a follow up letter.
